Want to Volunteer?

Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue is always looking for compassionate and responsible people who will assist CCDR, work with the public and help educate the public to the increasing problem of dogs needing homes. If you thnk you'd like to volunteer and help, we would be happy to hear from you.

As a volunteer you would work closely with a member that is in your area. Some people love to offer their help but don't necessarily wish to become a member so when an event is going to happen or a member needs some help in pulling a dog from a shelter, or a dog needs to be transported, the volunteer becomes a helpful assistant to a local member and to CCDR. As a volunteer you would work closely with one of our members and offer the services you are comfortable helping with.

Our big need though is we need people who can help with fostering dachshunds and dachshund mixes that are in animal shelters, surrendered by their owners, abandoned, retrieved from puppy mills, or seized from inhumane living conditions. If you woul like to go to the next level of volunteering, you might decide you'd like to be a foster home, you'd be helping us in an area that is desperately needed constantly. If you are a volunteer or foster home, you would work closely with a member in your area who would guide you.

To become a volunteer, contact info@c2cdr.org, but, If you think you would like to go to the next level and help CCDR as a foster home you would need to fill out a foster application. The application does ask for references and you will have to have a home visit done. We have to ensure that those we entrust our fosters to meet the requirements of the organization. You can find a foster form here. foster form.

Should you find that you want to do more than volunteer or foster and really get involved in all aspects of CCDR, you might wish to become a member. To learn more about membership please visit our membership page and read what it entails to be a member of CCDR. You'll have to meet the terms of membership but, once you become a member you'll be a part of the CCDR community and you'll soon realize that rescue is a very important factor in helping those dogs that need new homes and how helping with public awareness is the way to help stop the overpopulation that is so prevelant.

For more information on becoming a member, visit out membership information page.

The following are examples in which you can be of enormous help to CCDR:

  • Foster Care - Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue is always in need of qualified and approved foster homes. Foster homes care for CCDR dogs until safe and reliable permanent homes are found. While in foster care, you would be asked to assure that the dog is completely vetted according to CCDR policy. You would also be asked to evaluate the dog for any behavior issues such as fear of men, women or children, aggressiveness towards people or other dogs, etc. If you are interested in being a CCDR foster home, and are ready to experience the joy of caring for a rescued dog and seeing it go to a wonderful new home, please contact your local representative or send an email for more information. You may also complete a Foster Form.
  • Home Visits - (membership required) The purpose of the home visit is to meet the prospective adopters and see the environment that they will provide for a dog. CCDR essentially wants to know: Do you think that the applicant will provide a good and loving home, keep the dog's needs in mind, and provide for the dog's safety at all times? The member you are working with will guide you on the proper process to follow.
  • Owner Surrenders - Volunteers pick up and accept Dachshunds from owners who are unable to keep them, retrieving necessary release paperwork, either for fostering and placement, or to assist in the transportation to a foster home. You will get the dog to an approved foster home or a member. If you wish to become a foster home, please fill out the Foster Form.
  • Shelter Pulls - Volunteers pick up unwanted Dachshunds from shelters, filling out necessary paperwork, either for fostering and placement, or to assist in transporting to another rescue volunteer for foster care. " Transporter - This involves providing transportation for dogs between one location and another. Use of your own vehicle is required.
  • Fundraising Events - Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue relies solely on the funds obtained from adoption fees and donations from the public. Setting up tables at various pet supply stores, and other pet-related locations helps not only CCDR in raising money needed to rescue unwanted Dachshunds, but also to educate the public regarding the plight of dogs in puppy mills and pet stores, not to mention the overpopulation crisis that is sending too many unwanted pets to shelters and rescue organizations, such as CCDR, as a result of people not spaying and neutering their animals, and from indiscriminate breeding practices.
  • Transporting dogs - As a volunteer you may be able to help fill a "leg" of a transport that may be going through your area. Often times dogs are in an area that is a great distance from where the adopter is and while we ask the adopters to secure their own transportation, often times volunteers within the rescue community offer their help to drive short distances to get a dog from one place to another.
Now that you've read on how you can help, if you find that you are not in a position to join our Volunteer program, our foster family program or become a member at this time, please consider the many other ways you can contribute to our organization.

  • Donate to Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue - Your donations to Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue are tax deductible.
  • Support our Buddies Program - We know that not everyone can have another dog in their life. We also know that many people have such big hearts that when they see dogs in need or those dogs that are in long term foster care, they want to help and are happy to do it by being a "buddy" to that dog. As a buddy, you help support a dog's care and help CCDR help other Dachshunds in need. Buddies are dogs that have either special needs, high medical bills or dogs that have been in or may be in long term foster care. Some of them need more help than others and sometimes CCDR needs assistance to help them. Choose the amount that best suits you. You can donate monthly or one time! No amount is too small because every extra penny helps those dogs that need extra care. Your generosity is very much appreciated!. At this time we are set up with PayPal for receiving funds of cash or credit card. PayPal also allows you to print out a receipt for your tax deductible donation.

Thank you for expressing interest in helping Coast to Coast in its important mission.
